Why I Love Doing This

My passion about photography is driven by a desire to encourage people to pause now and then … and appreciate the many interesting and beautiful things in the world around us.  My work offers people an opportunity to have something beautiful, meaningful and sometimes funny hanging on their wall or given as a gift to someone they love.

My husband and I have five wonderful grown children between us, two amazing grandchildren and a loving Great Dane we named Daisy.  A couple of years ago I talked my husband into a move back to Venice, FL.  We found our current home in a lovely neighborhood where we can both work from home.  The area is full of very small dogs, but they are graciously adjusting to Daisy and the people who live with her.

Rebecca Purchase began studying art at the Venice School of Art. She earned an Associate’s Degree from Manatee Community College in Bradenton, Florida. She studied art and design at University of Florida and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Theater and Communications from Florida State University.

Rebecca’s life around camera began at an early age as an award winning photographers model in Hollywood, California and later in Miami, Florida. In high school she began enjoying photography from the other side of the camera. During her college years and beyond she worked for theater and performing arts groups throughout the county in a number of positions including management, marketing, communications, set design, set and lighting design. During those years she worked with outstanding professional photographers who helped her develop her own photography talent and skills. She worked for the Ringling Museum of Art in design and creation of exhibits for the Museum of the circus.

During her career Rebecca has held positions in national and local charitable organizations including communications, conference planning, fund development and executive management. She has received certifications in non-profit management, strategic planning, and board and fund development from University of Maryland, The Aspin Institute, Case Western University and United Way of America.

Rebecca is a published photographer, journalist and writer. She recently was award first prize in the Salem County New Jersey 350 contest. She serves on the Board of the Salem County Art League and the Salem County Library Commission.
